4-H Comes Back To Santa Clarita

4hmarkA new club aimed at children is planting its roots here in Santa Clarita.

4-H, a world-wide organization that aims to help youths develop “Head, Heart, Hands and Health,” is starting a club in Santa Clarita called the Canyon Country Mustangs 4-H Club.

The club is in its final stages of approval from the University of California Davis, who oversees the regions clubs, and is expected to hold its first meeting on December 11, at the Oak Creek Corral in Sand Canyon.
Members of the club learn responsibility, leadership, and citizenship through an array of activities such as quilting, raising animals and volunteering in the community.
“It’s a nice wholesome activity for kids where they can learn leadership and responsibility,” said Tracy Boldroff, leader in the Santa Clarita 4-H club and owner of Oak Creek Corral.
Those who choose to raise animals, start with a baby animal such as a goat called a kid. The owner is then responsible for not only the care of the kid, but also its training. Owners teach the animals to walk next to them stand and many other procedures associated with showing the animal at contests. These contests are often held at state and county fairs where different 4-H clubs compete against each other.
“This is a generation where children don’t have a lot of responsibility or don’t take the initiative with responsibility,” said Boldroff. “4-H teaches the true meaning of what it means to be depended on by the animals.”
The Mustangs will be holding a fundraiser called “Christmas in the Country” from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, where visitors can shop at more than 15 vendor booths.
The event will raise funds to help members with the purchase of animals and the cost associated with raising them.
“Were raising money because we don’t want the cost to stop children from participating,” said Boldroff.
In addition to shopping there will be pony rides, dancing horses, crafts for kids, trick roping demonstration, as well as Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Admission is $5 for adults, which includes a free drink ticket, while kids 12 and under are free.
The fundraiser is being held at 27345 Sand Canyon Rd, in Canyon Country.

  1. I am requesting more info on the 4-H Club in Santa Clarita for my 9.5 year old daughter. Her main interest are horses (horseback riding and the care of horses), and possibly other animals, but she is open to other interests too. Someone in my daughter’s gymnastics class mentioned the 4-H Club for projects that we would otherwise have a hard time affording.
