What could be more fun for your child than a city-wide play date?
In honor of nationally renowned Week of the Young Child, College of the Canyons will be hosting a day of play for children and families of our valley this Saturday.
On this day sponsored by the Southern California Association for the Education of Young Children, parents can bring their children of any age to the College of the Canyons Honor Grove where there will be an abundance of activities for their children to participate in.
The purpose of this event, says Renee Marshall, Director of the TEACH Program and Professor of Early Childhood Education at COC, is to give children the opportunity to have a day purely devoted to fun in education.
“It’s basically celebrating kids and celebrating play, but it’s also a nation wide event for Week of the Young Child,” said Marshall. “They are going to get an opportunity to socialize, plus they are going to get an opportunity to just enjoy themselves and play.”

The day’s festivities will include arts, crafts, science experiments, a career discovery event hosted by the Hart District, snacks, music, a puppet show, and much more. All the while, kids will be gaining valuable educational experiences and memories that will last a lifetime.
The best part about this event is that it allows families to have fun with their kids without having to spend more than a few dollars for snacks and food.
“Especially in this economy, the more reasonable items we can have for families, the more likely families will be able to do things with their children,” said Marshall.
Also, if you have tickets to the play, Seussical, at the COC Performing Arts Center, you can arrive early and let the kids create Dr. Seuss themed crafts and take part in other Dr.Seuss activities.
The Week of the Young Child “play day” will take place on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the College of the Canyons Honor Grove.
The event is free and open to children of all ages.
