The City of Santa Clarita is inviting the community to attend “A Day of Art” at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 10. The event will give attendees the opportunity to see all of the public art that has been installed at this facility.
Five new Art Cans have recently been installed around the entire complex, and two new murals have been added to the Aquatics Center. All of the artists who created the work will be on hand to discuss their projects. A self-guided tour of the art will begin at the Activities Center and light refreshments will be served.
“A Day of Art at the Sports Complex is a great showcase for projects that are all around the City,” said Mayor Laurene Weste. “Not only does public art add personality to our community, it encourages participation, creative expression, and discussion among our residents.”
The artists scheduled to attend are: Bob Hernandez, creator of the “Final Lap” mural at the Aquatics Center: Rachel Slick, creator of the mixed media mural “Into the Blue” at the Aquatics Center; Marc Kolodziejczyk, Executive Director from Special Children’s Art Foundation who created the mural at the Activities Center; and the four art can artists Frank Rock, Gerda Maxey, Mary Kay Wilson and Dave Ekman.
