A New Year’s Message From The City Manager

kenpulskampSanta Clarita City Manager Ken Pulskamp sent out a public letter today in light of the new year:

Greetings and Happy New Year!

As we begin our new calendar year, it is my pleasure to share with you some of the programs and projects your City is working on.

Don’t miss a thing. Get breaking news alerts delivered right to your inbox.

This year, the City’s big capital project is the construction of the new and larger Old Town Newhall Library. The 30,000 square foot new library will be state-of-the-art with computers, a children’s library, community meeting areas and even a fireplace for small gatherings. One of the most exciting aspects of the new library is the integration of our local history through art and architectural design. You can watch the library construction progress via our “library cam.”

Sports tourism is an important component of our local economy and in 2011, we have a host of special events aimed at bringing in excellent events, helping our local economy and garnering national and international exposure. In 2011, Santa Clarita will be host to the Final Start Stage of the Amgen Tour of California, slated for Sunday, May 22, 2011. This marks the fourth year that Santa Clarita has been selected as a host city for this prestigious event.

On June 3-5, 2011, Santa Clarita will be the home to a brand new event, Trifecta. This event will combine the three popular sports and recreational activities of swimming, cycling, and running into a weekend of healthy fitness and fun. The Trifecta will bring athletes to Santa Clarita who will be competing in three triathlons, three running events, and three grand fondos (cycling races) to Santa Clarita.

This spring, the City is pleased to host the annual Earth Arbor Day, the annual Cowboy Festival at Melody Ranch, the free summer concerts in the park, the annual Marathon and a whole lot more are also in the works for 2011.

If you are interested in any of these programs or events or would like to volunteer, please log on to our City’s website for details at santa-clarita.com, or call us at (661) 259-2489.

Here’s to a great new year!

Sincerely,
Ken Pulskamp
