Filled with many fun events, this Fourth of July was a fun and safe holiday.
This year, Santa Clarita’s Fourth of July started with the annual Fourth of July Parade through downtown Newhall and Valencia. Sheriff Lee Baca, Mayor Marsha McLean, Congressman Buck McKeon and Assemblyman Cameron Smyth were only a few of the many participants in this year’s parade.
Also held in the morning, was the Santa Clarita Rotary Club’s Pancake Breakfast. A mere three dollars would buy residents pancakes, sausage, orange juice and coffee.
As the day came to an end, the sky was lit up with firework shows all across the valley. At the Valencia Town Center, people were lined up to catch a glimpse of the show. On-air, KHTS featured the audio soundtrack simulcast.
[view:node_ad=5]Santa Clarita has definitely done its part to make this last holiday a safe one. Both the Santa Clarita Sheriffs and Fire Department noticed a drop in illegal fireworks, emergencies, and fires. Jason Hurd, a Fire Department Inspector said there was minimal illegal firework action, and only a few unrelated 911 calls. “Santa Clarita especially had a quiet Fourth of July,” Hurd quipped. So quiet in fact, that the LA county Fire Department never dealt with an illegal firework blaze last night. “We were very happy with the compliance from the residents”.
