Residents encouraged to participate in "Boxes of Blessings."
[view:node_ad=5]A new organization has taken aim at enriching the lives of Santa Clarita Senior Citizens over this holiday season.
The Grands organization has developed a program called “Boxes of Blessings” in which community members collect little, yet important items for our seniors.
There are more than 800 shut-ins living in town, and thousands more seniors living independently or in some form of assisted care.
The Grands organization says that their goal is to distribute the Boxes of Blessings to seniors over the holiday season to brighten their lives.
Here’s how you can help put together your own box. Start by getting your hands on a shoebox and simply wrap it in brown paper (boxes will only be accepted if they are shoeboxes). Then, decorate the box in whatever style you like, using ribbon, drawings, or anything related to the holiday you are donating for.
Inside the box, Grands recommends that you place a personal, signed card from you or your family, and anything else you think a senior would enjoy. Below is a list of some suggestions of things you can also put in the box.
A $5.00 gift card to a restaurant in town.
A Thanksgiving, Christmas, or other holiday decoration.
Crossword puzzle book
A pen or pencil
A Handmade craft
Candle
Hard Candies
Small canned ham
Small cans of vegetables
Small applesauce or puddings
Fall cookies
Tea bags/coffee singles
Juice Boxes
Key holder that can be worn on your wrist
Small kleenex
Small toiletries
Currently, the organization is collecting items for Thanksgiving; however they will be running the program through the rest of the fall holidays as well. Boxes will be accepted through November 19th.
When you have completed your box, you can take it to the Valencia Auto Spa at 23440 Valencia Blvd.
