A Very Un-Job Fair

CareerCampSCVLogoThe unemployed and those seeking new employment will have an opportunity to take part in a new approach to career building.

The Career Center at College of the Canyons is hosting CareerCampSCV at the Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center, in an effort to help residents find a job.

“The goal is to empower people with information and to share what they’ve discovered: successes, compare resumes, and build networks,” said Mitch Krayton, Co-Chair of CareerCampSCV.

The free unconference will take place from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on July 10, and will take a unique approach to the typical conference.

According to Krayton the unconference is facilitation rather than a dictitation.  Participants choose the topics they want to learn about, as opposed to sitting through a long speaking seminar.

Groups will be established where discussion is welcomed.

“We will also employ the law of two feet, where if you don’t like what your hearing you get up and use your feet to make the most of your time,” said Krayton.

Speaker topics include Ace the Interview, Business Etiquette, Skill Evaluation, the Resume Process, Marketing Planning, 10 Things to Do While You Are Looking, and Your Career Compass.
