A Walk In The Park Could Bring A Cure

khts_inthecommunity

Six Flags Friends, the philanthropic arm of Six Flags, and Cure Kids Cancer have teamed up once again to raise awareness and funding for pediatric cancers through its “A Walk In the Park” program. This unique walk-a-thon event will take place at all domestic Six Flags properties throughout the summer including Six Flags Magic Mountain on Saturday, June 20.

“A Walk In the Park” is intended to educate communities across the United States about the real need to find a cure for childhood cancers – the number one cause of death by disease among children. All funds raised at Six Flags Magic Mountain will benefit the local Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

This year, the park honors Brandon Martinez as the “A Walk In the Park” Ambassador. Brandon is 14 years old and has been treated at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles since he was 9 years old after being diagnosed with Acute Lymphoma Leukemia. He is currently on his second round of chemotherapy and should be finished in May 2010.

Despite the challenges he has faced in his short life, Brandon lives life to the fullest and is quick to inspire everyone he meets with his story. He represents only one of the millions of children affected by cancer in the United States.

Registration is now open. Those interested may visit www.walkintheparks.org for more information and to register to walk. Registration is $15 for an individual and $10 for those who join as a team of 10 or more. All fees include breakfast the morning of the event, T-shirt and gift bag. Participants who raise at least $50 will receive a complimentary ticket to the park.

Guests who are unable to participate in the walk can purchase a Six Flags Friends handprint for $1 at any park location in support of the cause or make a one-time donation at any www.walkintheparks.org.

The park is open daily. For information, call (661) 255-4111 or visit their website at sixflags.org for operating days and hours.
