Christopher Demyen, 39, of Acton, was killed Wednesday, after a verbal altercation on the 1500 block of Eagle Butte Road turned violent.

Sheriff’s Station personnel have a suspect, Scott Shipley, 56, of Acton, who allegedly drew a handgun at some point during the fight and shot the victim once in the chest.

He was taken into custody Wednesday without incident.

He is being held at the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station in lieu of $1 million bail. Shipley is due in court May 17  for his initial arraignment, according to Sheriff’s Department records.

Sheriff’s Department officials said the shooting did not seem gang-related, although an investigation is ongoing.

Although sheriff’s deputies and L. A. County Fire Paramedics responded, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives responded to a the report of a shooting at 2 p.m., Manatt said. The victim died at the scene.

The identity of the victim has not been released, however Sheriff’s Department officials confirmed that it was a man who was killed.

There are currently no suspects in custody. The case is being investigated by Lt. Francisco of the Homicide Bureau.

Detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau are still investigating the circumstances around the shooting.

“I believe it’s in a residential area,” Manatt said, describing the scene as “near a dirt road.”
