African-American students throughout the Hart School District are invited to attend a college night hosted by Valencia High School on Wednesday, September 21 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm, in the school’s multi-purpose room.
This event is open to all Hart District high school students, however, is designed for African- American students interested in learning more about various college opportunities. This event is coordinated by Valencia High School parent, Maisah Howard, Valencia High School counselor, Theresa Long, and Valencia High School Assistant Principal, Vince Ferry.
Students attending the college night will be able to talk with representatives from UCLA, UC Riverside, CSUN, USC, Spelman College, Howard University, Hampton University, Morehouse College, College of the Canyons, DeVry University and Princeton Review. High school counselors will also be on hand to answer questions.
Last year, Valencia High School hosted a similar night for Latino students which proved to be a rewarding experience for those who attended.
Students outside of Valencia High School are asked to bring a copy of their recent transcripts (Valencia High School students will be provided with their transcript) to the college fair so admission representatives and counselors can review and guide students toward college consideration.
