“When you lead by example, you keep your word and encourage people to keep theirs at the same time,” Urbina said.

If you are having trouble following through with what you agreed to, the issue could be that you are over extending or over committing yourself, Urbina said.

“I say yes a lot because I want people to be able to come to me when they need something,” said Andrew Delgado, Urbina’s co-host, “even when I know I might not actually be able to follow through.”

Many people sabotage themselves when they take on too much, according to Urbina.

“If you want people to count on you, and you take on too many requests,” Urbina said, “and you don’t keep those promises, people start to label you and may start to not count on you.”

Keeping your promises to people, or keeping your word can mean different things to different people, Urbina said.

“To me, keeping my word is being honest to myself, and recognizing that you have to fullfill that promise,” Delgado said.

“Your word is a reflection of you,” Urbina said, “and if you are not keeping your word, it’s a poor reflection of your character.”

One issue that many people struggle with is being on time.

“When a person gets hired at a company, it is an implied expectation that they will be on time,” Urbina said, “and if you aren’t you aren’t keeping your word.”

It is important to reflect on yourself often, and evaluate whether or not you are being true to yourself and the others around you, Urbina said.

“That’s why we do this show,” Urbina said, “to open up new possibilities and shift perspectives.”
