“In life, you have to be consistently reinventing yourself,” Urbina said. “That means being creative, using critical thinking and raising your level of consciousness.”
People can sometimes become complacent, having the mentality that, “if it’s not broke, don’t try to fix it,” Urbina said.
“That’s not entirely a wrong way to think,” Urbina said, “but you have to remember that the world is evolving and advancing around you — even if you’re not.”
An employee can have all of the skills that you may need for a job, but if you don’t have the ability to show your employer how valuable you are, those skills may be overlooked, according to Urbina.
“You have to show up in a way that shows people what your gifts are, and what your purpose is,” Urbina said.
Reinventing yourself within a relationship is also valuable, according to Urbina.
“People in extraordinary relationships are working on themselves,” Urbina said. “When you work on yourself, and the other person does the same, you are both better off.”
Another important aspect of working on yourself, is remembering to reinvent yourself often as a parent, according to Urbina.
“When you are more open, and you are communicating effectively, you are giving your kids an invitation to engage with you,” Urbina said.
