Santa Clarita Life Coach Alex Urbina: Personal Power

For Santa Clarita life coach Alex Urbina, personal power is all about perspective shifting and realizing that you can’t control anything in life outside of yourself.

“I always say that he or she who figures out how to master the ability to shift their perspective in multiple scenarios wins ultimately in life,” Urbina said. “When I finally realized that I can’t control anything outside of my life, outside of me, (that) was the moment that I woke up and realized that personal power really is everything about me, … my perception, my interpretations, my choices.”

Urbina noted that since his “wakeup call,” he has embarked on a conscious journey every single day to be mindful of his perspectives — and how to shift them in all different scenarios — in an effort to empower himself in life.

For example, if Urbina and another person witness the same event unfold, each individual will have their own perception of what happened, and interpret it accordingly.

“So you might choose to see it a certain way, like whatever happened was rude and then you get offended,” he explained. “I have the same option to choose to see it as being rude, but because I have worked on how I can perceive multiple different ways or I’m open to new possibilities,  I can choose a different perception that’s more empowering.”

While the other person may have walked away from the experience with hurt feelings that they hold onto, Urbina could choose to walk away from it without taking it personally or letting it bother him.

For those wondering how to make this conscious choice to change their perceptions, Urbina used the analogy of seeing life through a pair of lenses that need to constantly be cleaned.

When you’re born, you have crystal clear lenses and see the world as a loving, giving, caring and beautiful place. However, as you grow up and experience hurts or hardships, you create negative beliefs that taint or cloud your lenses, and thus your perspective of the world.

“If your filters that which you look through the world are clouded, are skewed or tainted or negative, you’re going to have a totally different experience than the person to your left and to your right that has worked on that and have really put a conscious effort on cleaning out their filters,” Urbina explained.

Conscious individuals who strive to clean their filters every single day can be empowered in such a way that it makes them more excited, more hopeful, more full of joy and peace, according to Urbina.

“It’s not until you find yourself on a journey where somebody can mentor you or coach you to help you look at some of those limiting beliefs and also have you look at how you interpret the world,” Urbina said, “(that) you can interpret the world in a more empowering way.”
