As a parent, it is important to take responsibility for their children’s results as well as their own results, said Alex Urbina, a Santa Clarita Life Coach.

“It takes a big person to take responsibility for, not only their results as a parent but it takes a big person to also own the results of their kids,” said Urbina. “Not just when things are going great, but also when things are going bad.”
A conscious parent is not about being perfect, it’s about being aware and being willing to fix the mistakes, according to Urbina.
“Your kids results are your results,” said Urbina. “When you have your babies when they’re young, hopefully you made a conscious commitment to yourself, to your wife and to the child that you are going to teach how to be powerful young men and women and confident in society.”

Urbina has seen some parents get so excited to become a father or a mother for the first time that they “shoot out of the gates very strong” and it ends up “dying out” when the child is 7 or 8 years old.
“As parents, we start to focus on how to make more money or how to get that promotion, we kind of take our focus off of our kids,” said Urbina. “It’s a lifelong commitment.”

It is important to be able to self-reflect as a parent, said Urbina.
“It’s very easy to be proud of your kids and their accomplishments, but you have to also take ownership and responsibility for their downfalls and mistakes,” said Urbina. “The powerful play is to sit there and say, ‘who am I being,’ or ‘who am I not being.’”
