A 20-year old driver is behind bars Friday morning after knocking over a power pole in Valencia and fleeing the scene of the accident.

Anthony Santos attempted to turn the corner at Avenida Navarre and Alta Madera Drive around 2:30 a.m. at a high rate of speed and hit the light pole, knocking it over.

Santos sped away from the location, but returned later on foot to retrieve broken car parts from a resident’s driveway.

Residents had called the sheriff’s department and deputies tried to catch Santos initially at the residence, but he jumped up a wall and crossed the roof of the house, continuing through the back yard and over the back fence. Deputies caught Santos in a nearby park and took him into custody.

According to Lt. Mark Hershey at the SCV Sheriff’s station, Santos was booked on suspicion of drunk driving. His bail was set at $5,000 for the misdemeanor charge; Santos was released Friday morning shortly after 10 a.m.
