Los Angeles County Emergency Medical service agency officials are partnering with the Los Angeles Fire Department and the American Heart Association to facilitate CPR training in the Santa Clarita Valley for National CPR Day on Tuesday.
There are 80 additional locations all over Los Angeles. It is completely free of charge and only takes five to 10 minutes, yet it will provide preparation for individuals to be a lifesaver in case of a cardiac emergency.
These training sessions are entirely dedicated to promoting cardiac survivability.
“The Los Angeles Fire Department finds it essential for Los Angeles citizens to learn this life saving technique to empower themselves,” said county firefighter Erik Scott. “It is a vital tool that could potentially save lives.”
The type of training that will be overviewed is Compression-only CPR (popularly known as Hands-only CPR), which is just as effective as conventional CPR.
Chest compressions work by circulating oxygen that is already present in the blood in cases of apparent cardiac arrest.
It essentially provides an ongoing blood flow that gives an individual a better likelihood of survival once responders arrive.
Each training session will be facilitated by medical professionals or firefighters and each attendee will use an inflatable mannequin as practice.
“During their lunch breaks, Los Angeles citizens can learn simple techniques to increase revivability for cardiac arrest victims,” Scott said.
“Most people who experience cardiac arrest at home, work or in a public location die because they don’t receive immediate CPR from someone on the scene.” according to American Heart Association officials.
“As a bystander, don’t be afraid. Your actions can only help,” according to the statement.
Through these CPR trainings in our local community, anyone can have access to resources to empower themselves to save a life in a moment of a crisis.
