Amgen Race Still Up for Grabs

Last year’s champ number one so far this year as well.

The Amgen Tour of California took off Monday from Sausalito, and at that time, it was anyone’s race. Now, with the stage 6 finish here in Santa Clarita less than a day away, the race could still end up with any number of riders.

After stage wins by Dominique Rollin, Tyler Farrar, J.J. Haedo, and Robert Gesink, the Amgen overall leader has a familiar face. Last year’s champ Levi Leipheimer, took control of the leader jersey after stage 3.

Stage six starts late Saturday morning in Santa Barbara and runs to Santa Clarita. It is a grueling stage, and since its implementation last year, race organizers have touted that the overall winner after stage 6 could well prove to be the winner of the full race.

The festivities for the Amgen Tour of California in Santa Clarita begin at 11:00am Saturday, culminating with “Rock The Bike” from 4:00pm to 10:00pm.
