Commemorative statue to mark Cancer Center entrance.
Visitors and patients of the Providence Holy Cross Cancer Center will soon be greeted by an angel, as Tuesday will see the unveiling of a commemorative statue symbolizing the hope and comfort provided there.
The unveiling will be the culmination of a vision by the center’s medical director, Dr. Shamel Sanani, honoring the final wish of one of his patients, Jean Seratti, who passed away in 2008. Costs associated with the project were covered by donations in memory of Seratti, a long-time volunteer in the San Fernando Valley and an advocate for Providence Holy Cross.
The life-size statue was donated by Steven Lavaggi, the “Artist of Hope” and a top seller on QVC. He and his family are traveling from their home in Austin, Texas to attend the unveiling. Lavaggi recast his “Healing Angel of Reconciliation” concept in bronze at the request of Jeri Seratti-Goldman, Jean’s daughter. Jeri is a recipient of the Providence Lights of Life Award, given in acknowledgment of her dedication and commitment to Providence and its mission to care for the poor and vulnerable.
