For the cat lovers of Santa Clarita, Dr. Jaimie Ronchetto of Cinema Veterinary Centre is talking about a few fun facts you may not know about your furry feline friend.

# 1 – Cats can jump up to six times their length.
“Isn’t that crazy?” Ronchetto said. “They can be really great jumpers… They’re very agile, but they can go up and it’s sometimes harder to get back down.”
# 2 – Cats are capable of swimming, but they may not be good at it (or like it).
“For the most part, cats do not enjoy water,” Ronchetto said. “They can swim; that doesn’t mean that they would be safe around a pool, however. Just like all dogs can swim also, it doesn’t mean that they’re good at it.”
# 3 – Cats usually love to sunbathe, but they can still get heat stroke.
“You’ll find kitties just laying in really odd spots, and usually that’s where the sun is or has been and they just haven’t moved when the sun moved,” Ronchetto said.
She continued, “They can get heat stroke just like dogs can. They will pant if they get too hot or if they get too stressed, and that’s certainly not a good sign if you see a cat panting. They don’t do it very often. They usually only do it if they’re really distressed.”
# 4 – The best thing about having a cat, in Ronchetto’s opinion, is their amusing independence.
“You just sometimes have got to earn their love, and that’s what I think is so funny about cats is they are typically independent, but they usually find their person in a family,” Ronchetto said. “And that’s their person and they want to be loved on, but it’s always on their terms right? So they might come up and want to just be next to you and have three pets and then they’re done. They’re just funny little creatures.”
