Valencia Nissan covered the cost of adoption fees for dogs and issued vouchers to attendees to adopt from the shelter that weekend for free, while a grant by the ASPCA covered fees for cats.

“Our volunteers love getting the (animals) out into the community,” said Karen Stepp, manager of the Castaic Animal Shelter. “Some people, they prefer to go to a community event, an adoption event instead of coming to the shelter, and then (the animals) are showcased a lot better.”

Shelter volunteers arrived at the start of the event to find a small crowd already waiting for them, including two young brothers who decided to donate half of the money they had raised from a lemonade stand for the shelter’s dogs and cats.

“It’s touching to me that these young boys are philanthropic at this age and thinking about the animal shelter,” Stepp said. “It just shows that our young people are very interested in our animals.”

Saturday’s Pet Adoption Day was the second to be hosted by Valencia Nissan in partnership with the Castaic Animal Shelter, with a total of 25 shelter pets adopted between the two events.

“We just appreciate the generosity of (Manager) Bob Bailey and Valencia Nissan, and just partnering with us to get our animals into loving new homes,” Stepp said. “It was a great event, it’s always a success, and we hope that in the future we can do it again.”

  1. What a great idea to have this pet adoption out in the community. Thank you to Valencia Nissan for hosting this event. Also, a great big thank you to Chase and Brooks Gable for their donation to the shelter. Great job, young men. So happy for all the animals who found their new loving families and furever homes.
