Monk was reunited with his owner, Victoria, at the Castaic Animal Care Center after she lost her home in the Woolsey Fire.

“Pet owner Victoria had been devastated from losing her home from this tragic event, then looked several places for her lost puggle to no avail,” said Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC) officials.

On Tuesday, the owner decided to visit the Castaic Shelter and fortunately was reunited with Monk, officials said, adding, “We are so happy to witness their reunion.”

DACC has sheltered over 800 animals since Thursday, Nov. 8 when the Woolsey Fire first ignited in Ventura County, including dogs, cats, rabbits, horses, llamas, donkeys and other large animals.

Animal sheltering sites during the ongoing blaze include Pierce College, Hansen Dam and Antelope Valley Fairgrounds. DACC also staffed mobile animal shelters at Taft High School and Borchard Park.

Throughout the Woolsey Fire, the Department of Animal Care and Control has provided monitoring and sheltering for 24 hours each day, according to officials.

“As the fires are contained, we look forward to many more happy reunions of pets and owners,” said DACC officials.
