The City’s Newhall Community Center has officially trained another award-winning boxer. 20-year-old Mayte Razo took home the 2009 Southern California District Golden Gloves title in the girls’ 125 pound novice weight division.
Mayte has trained at the Community Center for the past two years, throughout which she competed in six amateur bouts. With the help of Coach Victor Rocha and the Community Center, Mayte overcame a number of hardships, including losing 50 pounds, to compete and take home the Southern California District Golden Gloves title.
“Mayte’s success is testament to her hard work and dedication to the boxing program,” said Efren Galindo, Sports Coordinator for the Community Center. “Mayte has transformed herself into one of the most disciplined and skilled boxers in the City’s boxing program.”
