To address discrepancies in the County’s food preparation practices and the Health Department’s ordinances protecting the public, Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich has introduced a motion for consideration at next week’s Board meeting, calling for the Director of Public Health to convene meetings with restaurant groups. Last July, the Orange County Health Agency worked with Vietnamese restaurant owners to resolve issues related to some food items that may be safely stored at room temperature for longer periods than inspectors had allowed. The motion directs the Director of Public Health to report back to the Board in 30 days on additional training on the recent State law changes concerning food temperature, and additional studies on the safety of traditional cultural food preparation techniques.
