Antonovich Calls Today Human Trafficking Awareness Day

Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich accompanied by Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley and Paul Nissan, Executive Director, of the “National Human Trafficking Awareness Day,” joined the Board of Supervisors in proclaiming January 11, 2007, as “National Human Trafficking Awareness Day” throughout Los Angeles County.

Antonovich thanked the “March Against Terror,” organization and the broad coalition of local faith-based groups and community organizations for raising the public conscience and expanding the nation’s efforts to combat trafficking.

Antonovich called human trafficking an offense against humanity and said that nearly 800,000 women, children and men are trafficked across national boundaries each year.  He noted that one year ago, President Bush signed H.R. 972, the Trafficking Victims Protection Act – to expand our nation’s efforts to combat trafficking and help its victims to find physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual restoration.
