Dear Mr. Goldman:
Including my opposition to placing the Cemex mine in the Santa Clarita Valley, your editorial, "Antonovich Not Helping Santa Clarita,” completely ignored the facts.
Both the Federal trial and appellate courts have ruled that Cemex’s mining permit is valid and that both the County and the City cannot stop it. The City’s annexation of Stonecrest would have no effect on the Cemex mine. Also, there are a number of "bridges" that the City can connect to its existing boundaries to the Cemex property that do not include annexing Stonecrest.
The informational meeting I hosted at the request of Stonecrest residents was to provide objective information about the municipal services provided by Los Angeles County and the benefits of living in unincorporated areas. Los Angeles County department directors were there to provide factual information as requested by my constituents.
MICHAEL D. ANTONOVICH
Mayor, Los Angeles County
