Supervisor mourns passing of friend and legendary broadcaster.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich released
the following statement on the passing of legendary broadcaster George Putnam:

“Today, America
lost one of its National Treasures – George Putnam.  For nearly 75 years,
George had been a trusted reporter, broadcaster and commentator. My family and
I also lost a wonderful friend and supporter.

He covered many important events, events that helped define
the world as we know it.

From his humble beginnings as a 20-year old reporter at
WDGY, Minneapolis, to being the highest-rated television newsman and anchor in
Los Angeles County, to the longest serving nationally syndicated host in
America — George loved giving the news and motivating his listeners to stay
strong and faithful.

He was also the recipient of four Emmys, six California
associated press television and radio association awards, eight annual radio and
television news club awards and over 300 other honors and citations for service
to country and his community.

George loved his country, and served it dutifully in WWII,
as a Lieutenant in the Army and as a First Lieutenant in the Marine Corps,
winning two citations.

He was urged to run for governor once — but supported his
friend Ronald Reagan in the race.

Christine and I send our most heartfelt condolences to the Putnam
family and friends.”
