At the County Board of Supervisors meeting Wednesday, county Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich will propose that all 88 cities in Los Angeles County adopt an ordinance to opt into the provisions of Assembly Bill 190, which will exempt all U.S. Veterans with the proper license plate from paying metered parking.
The bill was passed in 2008 and allows cities to decide if they would like to extend this privilege to veterans. Antonovich said that most L.A. County cities are not aware of the law. In order to increase awareness, Antonovich motioned that a letter be sent to all town and city councils and that Board contact Governor Jerry Brown about listing participating cities on the California Department of Motor Vehicles Website.
He hoped it would be a way to honor the “thousands of men and women join our nation’s military to serve their country and protect our freedom. The contributions and sacrifices of these brave soldiers are vital in maintaining the freedoms and way of life enjoyed by Americans and people around the world.”
