Architectural Historian Jean-Guy Dube To Speak On Old Railroad Depots Along The Southern Pacific Line

JeanGuyDubeThe Southern Pacific Railroad arrived in the Santa Clara River Valley in 1887 and during its march to the sea, built several common standard depots along its route. Depots were located from Saugus to Ventura and over time, connected Los Angeles to San Francisco with its new coastal route.

Historian Jean-Guy Dube will give a talk on the Southern Pacific Railroad Depots of the Santa Clara River Valley before the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society at 1 pm on Saturday, December 10.

The talk will be held at the Saugus Train Station at Heritage Junction within William S. Hart Park, a unit of the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation System, 24101 Newhall Avenue, in Newhall.

This lecture will focus on some of these depots of the Santa Clara River Valley and will include their history, plans, features, building materials and their fates. In addition, Mr. Dube will display several blueprints of these depots that he has drafted over the past 10 years.

Dube is an apprenticing architect and architectural historian. He has been researching Southern Pacific’s depots since 1985. In 2001, he applied his work experience in architectural drafting to re-creating blueprints of some of Southern Pacific’s common standard depots. He has architectural history degrees from The University of California and is employed by one of the top 100 architects in the United States, Architect Marc Appleton.

The Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society is pleased to host Jean-Guy Dube at the Saugus Train Station. The general public is welcome. Admission will be free.
