Group also looking forward to “paint out.”
The Santa Clarita Artists' Association (SCAA) plein-air group visited The R-Ranch in the Sequoias during the weekend of December 17-20, painted the spectacular scenery along the Kern River, and captured the golden fall foliage along the many creeks and rocky, river beds. Other activities included horseback riding in the magnificent tall pine trees and hoofing through recently fallen snowdrifts.
Artists who enjoy painting outdoors can join this group on January 26, between 9-12, for a "paint out" in Placerita Canyon, at the dead end of Alderbrook Dr. in Newhall. Scenes for the subject matter include a steer, some horses and the colorful fall flora along the Placerita Creek. Potluck lunch will follow. For more information on plein-air painting and scheduled outings, email: marblemad@hotmail.com.
Monthly meetings of the SCAA can be both informative and inspirational. They are usually held on the 3rd Monday (except for holidays) of each month at 7 p.m. at Westfield Town Center Mall Community Room. On January 21, Frank Lennartz (renowned plein-air oil painter; www.lindadupas.com) will be demonstrating his techniques. On February 11, Johnathon Gallagher (digital artist, animator and artistic director for restoration of Bullock’s Wilshire building; www.gallagrafix.com) will be the guest speaker. Non-members are also welcomed and may attend their first meeting for free.
