The participating artists of the Santa Clarita Artists Association (SCAA) had a fun-filled day with kids and families during the Earth Arbor Day celebration at the Central Park in Santa Clarita on Saturday, April 16.
This annual event was sponsored by the City’s Arts & Events. SCAA Events Chairperson Olga Kaczmar with President Zony Gordon, members Howard and Cheri Marcovitch, Laurie Finklestein and her husband Steve Finklestein, Georgette Arison, Shirley Checkos and Julie Karson all pitched in to make this ecology day a huge success.

The SCAA booth featured educating kids about Rock Art, letting them adorn rocks with paint, and a display of various artworks in watercolor, acrylics and oils.
“Interactive Art is always a highlight of an SCAA booth. It encourages kids to cultivate their minds and extend their artistic imagination. Our members who are very active volunteers in the community also get an opportunity to display their works,” said Gordon.
The SCAA members are gearing up for the Annual Art Classic Gala at Hart Hall on Saturday, October 15, with more than 150 art pieces that will be entered in a judged competition. The silent art auction always draws a huge crowd. The winners of the high school art scholarship will also be featured and given special awards. Rock Art pieces from member artists will also be on display.
“We welcome sponsors from the neighborhood to help us make this a huge success,” said Kaczmar. Last year’s sponsors included The City of Santa Clarita, County of Los Angeles Dept. of Parks and Recreation, Hyatt Regency Valencia, KHTS Radio 1220 AM, SCVTV, Union Bank, Walmart and numerous other local businesses which provided in-kind services and/or donations.
“We openly thank them for their past support and welcome them to join us once again,” Kaczmar added.
