KHTS is looking for the next big act in country music, a singer or band they can send to the State Finals of the 2014 Country Showdown.
This June, aspiring country artists from across the nation will begin a months long journey that could land some of them in Nashville, competing for the title “Best New Act in Country Music” and a $100,000 grand prize.

That journey is the Country Showdown, formerly known as the Texaco Country Showdown. Every spring, more than 450 local radio stations sponsor talent contests, choosing winners to advance to the state and regional levels. Only five contestants make it to the national finals at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.
KHTS AM-1220 has participated in the Country Showdown for two years, and twice their sponsored contestants have made it to the national level.
In 2012, band Poor Man’s Poison took first place, winning the cash prize and a recording contract.
Suzanne Harper was one of the five finalists in 2013, though the “Best New Act” title went to Texas contestant Crystal Yates.
This year, KHTS is again looking for local country music talent: individual singers or bands with up to seven members.
The first competition will be held at the Keyboard Galleria on Saturday, June 21 at 5 p.m. Three semi-finalists will be selected from contestants to advance to the Local Final during Concerts in the Park on Saturday, July 19.
Haper will also perform during the finals.
The tentative deadline to submit entry forms and music samples is Tuesday, June 17 at 5 p.m.
Entry forms and fees should be mailed or submitted to the KHTS office on Camp Plenty Road. Contestants can also email email@example.com.
The $20 entrance fee should be paid in cash or a money order made out to “Special Promotions, Inc.”
After the Concerts in the Park Local Final, the winner will advance to the State Finals at Knott’s Berry Farm.
