The Country Showdown is the nation’s longest running country contest, giving stars such as Carrie Underwood, Jason Aldean, and Toby Keith their start.

On Sunday, KHTS AM-1220 judges selected Jarett James, Savannah Burrows and Joshua Wade Aigner for the final local competition, which will be hosted during the Concerts in the Park Summer Series at Central Park.

After making it through a series of local contests, hosted by nearly 450 radio stations nationwide, contestants compete in regional and state competitions each year for a chance at $50,000 and the prestigious title of “Best New Act in Country Music” according to Country Showdown’s website.

After successfully navigating three tiers of competition, musicians compete in the national competition. The 35th Annual Country Showdown will air live on national television next year.

The three local winners were chosen over eight other acts at Keyboard Galleria on Sunday, and will compete again Saturday, July 16 at Concerts in the Park.

Joshua Wade Aigner, a member of the Bakersfield community, is a singer/songwriter who draws his inspiration from the sounds of Marvin Gaye, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Led Zeppelin, according to his Facebook page.  His music attempts to reflect “the humble, blue-collar, family-centered upbringing that he was afforded.  His first single, “Let Your Hair Down,” was recently released and is available for purchase on iTunes.

Savannah Burrows has been writing music since she was eight years old, according to her website.  After performing to friends and family she began touring to venues across Los Angeles and Nashville, playing for crowds up to 5,000 people.  Her blend of country style with pop beats adds a unique blend to her musical style.

Jarett James began singing country music two years ago when his friends encouraged him to vocalize the country  melodies he had been writing for years.  Growing up on a ranch and being a singer for his church worship team for 6 years, James used his country and singing roots to begin his music career.  His band, Jarett James and the County Line, is excited to perform in front of their largest audience to date.  “Every show I ever play, I have something special planned,” James said.  They will begin strategizing their unique routine this Friday.

These three musicians will face each other, but only one will be selected by a panel of local judges. The three judges are heavily involved with the music and arts culture of Santa Clarita. They are Dennis Webber, owner of Keyboard Galleria Music Center; Andrea Vibe, founder of Vibe Performing Arts Center and Music Studio; and Kim Treat, a vocal coach for over 14 years.

The winner of the Concerts in the Park finals will represent Santa Clarita at this year’s regional competition at Knott’s Berry Farm in September.

Sponsors of the local event and competition include Keyboard Galleria Music Center and Reeves Auto Center.
