The Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita Valley is planning a dance party leading up to the center’s participation in the August charity event, “Dancing With Our Stars,” center officials announced Wednesday.

“We thought it would be fun to host a dance-inspired event for those who love to dance and for those who want to learn,” said Linda Davies, executive director of the Domestic Violence Center of SCV. “We hope everyone will come out and enjoy this fun, no-pressure evening that’s all for a good cause.”

Attendees can enjoy light hors d’oeuvres, unlimited dancing and access to salsa, swing, tap, samba and line dancing lessons by professional dancers, according to a Domestic Violence Center of SCV news release.

Event officials are also planning a raffle for dance lessons, fitness and wellness programs and Lia Sophia jewelry.

The party precedes the center’s participation in “Dancing With Our Stars,” a charity event being held at the Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons that will feature several Santa Clarita nonprofit organizations.

“‘Dancing With Our Stars’ is such a great charity event and we are thrilled to be one of this year’s worthy benefitting charities,” Davies said.

City of Santa Clarita Mayor Pro Tem Marsha McLean is scheduled to dance for the center at “Dancing With Our Stars” and lead the tap dance lesson at the dance party, officials said.

Admission tickets to the party will serve as proxy votes for McLean at “Dancing With Our Stars,” according to the news release.

All funds raised from the dance party and the main event go directly to the Domestic Violence Center of SCV to help support the shelter and client programs, officials said.

The dance party is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on July 19 at the Elks Lodge in Canyon Country.

Admission is $25 per person and attendees must be 18 years of age or older. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the center’s main office in Newhall or at the door.
