Dannay Rodriguez, 21, of Canyon Country, began modeling for advertisements in magazines, newspapers and billboards when she was 15 years old.
She recently finished her first part in a full-length feature film “Insidious Chapter 2,” in which she plays Allison.
Rodriguez began acting when she was 17 years old, and has been featured in commercials for Coca Cola and Pet Smart. She’s also modeled for video game advertisements, T-mobile, US Cellular and American Eagle Outfitters.
“I’ve done student films and worked with my acting coach to build my resume,” Rodriguez said. “I go to acting class in Sherman Oaks and, sometimes, I go to class in Hollywood.”
Rodriguez said she likes having a one-on-one coach because it helps her stay focused.
The 21-year-old grew up in the Santa Clarita Valley and graduated from Canyon High School in 2011.
“I was involved in the speech and debate team, as well as the basketball team,” said Rodriguez.”I was a huge tomboy because I had three older brothers. I didn’t know what dresses or makeup was.”
Rodriguez attended the brunch career event at Placerita Junior High school recently and talked to students who were interested in acting and modeling.

“I sometimes go to the Miss SCV Scholarship Program and talk to the girls and tell them my story,” Rodriguez said. “They’re really amazed at what I’ve done and it touched me. You can do anything for me to inspire them and that’s so awesome.”
Rodriguez grew up in a law enforcement home, with both of her parents and her three brothers in various careers from probation officer to training for the Los Angeles Police Department.
Rodriguez hopes to eventually make it to the big screen.
Rodriguez said her dream was “getting a series on ABC Family or something like that,” adding she frequently attends as many as three or more auditions a day.
While her family supports her, Rodriguez’ No. 1 fan is her Yorkie, Messer.
“I told my mom, ‘That’s your passion, mine is acting — the art telling the story and portraying someone else’s life,” Rodriguez said. “So many different characters, it’s so awesome. I love the drama, too, and getting in depth getting in character.”
