Lastly, the student films that are being filmed this week in Santa Clarita are “Blood Moon,” “Twentysomething” and “Work and Family.”

Santa Clarita saw an increase in location filming in 2017, according to officials.

“The Film Office reported 556 film permits and 1,385 location film days, which generated an estimated $33.9 million in local economic impact – a three percent rise in impact compared to 2016,” said a news release. “Santa Clarita’s numerous sound stages, movie ranches and thousands of film-friendly locations, its one-stop shop Film Office, low-cost film permits and ideal location within the industry’s 30-Mile Zone have made the city one of the most-filmed areas in California.”

The thirty-mile zone is a union designation area which has a 30-mile circle that goes around Century City which provides cheaper filming cost, said Evan Thomason.

The Santa Clarita Valley is also a very attractive location for filmmakers due to the numerous parts of the world the city replicates, officials said.

“Santa Clarita has been used to replicate West Virginia, The Middle East, Mexico and several other parts of the world,” said Thomason.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
