The film was produced and directed by Colon-Petree, and was made to show how important women’s rights are.

The documentary was filmed in Kenya, the Dominican Republic, Miami, Indianapolis, Chicago; and Los Angeles.

“Filming in Africa was life changing,” Colon-Petree said. “Being there gave me a different perspective of what goes on in these different countries.”

The premiere was held Thursday at the Edwards Theater in Valencia.

“The premiere went amazing,” Colon-Petree said, with enthusiasm in her voice. “There were close to 200 people in attendance, and they all loved the film.”

After the film was over, viewers had an opportunity to do a Q&A with some of the cast members, according to Colon-Petree.

Colon-Petree noted that nine different women came up to her after the premiere and expressed interest in going to Africa the next time she goes.

“Something cool that happened was Alin Arabian, owner of Fast-Fix Jewelry and Watch Repairs in the Valencia Town Center, offered to pay for one person to go to Africa with me next year,” the producer said. “This will be very helpful to have for someone who might want to go who can’t afford it, because the trip can cost between $4,500 to $6,000.”

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
