Open to artists from Los Angeles and Ventura County, the deadline for artists to make their submission for the exhibit, called “It’s Like, Totally Rad Art,”  is Jan. 10, 2018, according to officials.

Those interested in entering their artwork can fill out an online application including a description of their art, as well as photos of their entry.

“It’s Like, Totally Rad Art” is expected to be displayed in conjunction with the city of Santa Clarita’s “One Story One City” program presented by the Santa Clarita Public Library.

The program’s book for 2018 is “Ready Player One” by Ernest Cline, which extensively features pop culture from the 1980’s using music, television, movies and more to create the story, according to Santa Clarita Arts officials.

The following description of “Ready Player One” was given by Santa Clarita Arts officials on their website:

“In the year 2044, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade’s devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world’s digital confines, puzzles that are based on their creator’s obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them.”

Paralleling the theme of the book, Santa Clarita arts officials are looking for artwork that features, highlights or uses design elements from the 1980’s, as well as iconic pop culture figures, history, etc. for the exhibit.

“It’s Like, Totally Rad Art” is set to be on display in the First Floor Gallery at City Hall from March 1, 2018 through June 1, 2018.
