Noah Garcia, of Newhall, was the youngest entertainer at the College of the Canyon’s Performing Arts Center Open Mic Night in October, where he performed stand-up comedy in front of dozens of Santa Clarita residents.
“I heard about Open Mic Night and thought it might be a good idea (to perform),” Garcia said. “I decided to do it, I didn’t practice but I did really fine. I knocked down my papers in one of my jokes and the audience clapped louder.”
Garcia attends Golden Oak Elementary School in the Sulphur Springs School District and is going to be part of the first class to attend the school from kindergarten through sixth grade, he said. He plans on attending Albert Einstein Academy for Letters, Arts and Sciences next year.
“As a mom, I’m apprehensive and want to protect him. He really loves being in front of people,” said Linda Garcia, Noah’s mother. “My husband saw ads for the Open Mic Night and asked Noah if he wanted to perform.”

The Garcia family often has a mini comedy night during dinner time where each of the family members try to come up with the best joke.
“Sometimes, I like to joke about my family and stuff like that,” Noah Garcia said.
Noah Garcia has been interested in acting in movies and commercials, Linda Garcia said.
“Because of his age, it’s hard for him to learn what comedy is so we’re trying to encourage him by watching how other comedians perform. He’s really starting out in trying to understand of comedy,” Linda Garcia said. “Noah said, ‘I can wait to say bad words in comedy.’ My husband and I said that’s not what comedy is about. He can still be funny without saying bad words.”
Noah Garcia often watches the older episodes of “Saturday Night Live” with his family and likes Jerry Lewis, Linda Garcia said.
“I love Noah a lot and I’m very proud of him,” Linda Garcia said. “I think he’s a wonderful little man that I have in my life. He’s very funny, very smart and doing well in school.”
For now, Noah Garcia helps his parents take care of his two younger brothers 6-year-old Matthew and 1-month-old Joaquin. He is also treasurer for student council and the owl mascot for his school.
“I was thinking of doing the Open Mic show next year and anything else that shows up I might do, maybe a play,” Noah Garcia said. “When I’m older, I want to be a comedian but I also want to be a teacher. I want to teach the kids of the next generation.”
