Kurt B. Farmer, the Director of Food & Beverage Services at the Hyatt Regency and has been working at the hotel for three years this coming May, has been working in the hospitality for much of his life.

“I work in the banquet department and restaurant service. The department’s motto is to make promises come true,” he said. “People get here, get happy and get what they want for their events.”

Farmer not only enjoys delivering top-notch hospitality services, he also loves to sing.

“I just walk around singing all the time,” Farmer said. “I was walking by booth at the KHTS AM-1220 Home and Garden Show and they gave me a microphone and so I started singing along with ‘Happy.’”

Farmer has performed national anthem and other songs at various events. When setting up an event at the Hyatt Regency, he is often given the microphone to test.

“Instead of saying ‘check, check’,” he said, “I sing songs.”

His favorite song to sing is “Mona Lisa” by Nat King Cole.

The Castaic resident grew up in Boston where he lived with his musical family. He played the trumpet for five years and was part of his church choir.

“It’s hard to sing and play the trumpet at the same time,” he said, with a laugh.

Farmer came out to California in the 1970s after he visited his brother in West Covina. He needed a job and began working in the financial department at a temp agency.

He has worked at several hotels over the years across the state but decided to work at the Hyatt Regency because he wanted to work in the community when he lives, he said.

“In this position, we sell service and space. We find out what peoples needs are and we create memories,” Farmer said. “There’s nothing more gratifying or satisfying to me.”

  1. Thank you for the article…It’s a wonderful community and I now I can say I’m a True Member of ‘Awesome Town’….

  2. I love this article because Kurt is such a gem to have around the Hotel! Thank you for showing him a little love!

  3. Everyone was in awe when Kurt sang the National Anthem for the start of the State Scholastic Chess Championships held at the Hyatt in 2014. While dining at the Vines in December, we heard him delighting everyone with his Christmas carols! We are lucky to have him in our community!

  4. As Kurt’s “favorite sibling” I can honestly say I don’t ever remember a day growing up that music wasn’t flowing out of his mouth. Our mother was a pianist and I truly believe she was at the keyboard during his birth?.
