Colette Wixom regularly posts pictures of her fashionable 4-year-old son Ryker, and occasionally 2-year-old Grey, to various social media outlets and website to show a budget-friendly way of dressing up kids.

“I was at my sisters house with some friends and they were showing me pictures of fashion kids — girls with Chanel purses and boys with Gucci belts,” said Collette Wixom, owner of the Ministylehacker Instagram account. “I was like ‘There’s no way, who has that kind of stuff?’ Most people don’t have that in their kids closets and I wanted to show people how you can dress your kids on a budget.”

The Ministylehacker Instagram account was created just months ago and has nearly 190,000 followers. The Facebook page has a little more than 8,000 likes.

“Ryker is not a model, he’s not kid who loves having picture taken or loves to go shopping,” she said.

Collette Wixom plays games with Ryker to “keep it fun.”

“If I was him to put his hands on head, I have him put both hands on head and karate chop toys off to the side,” she said. “We just play.”

“It has turned into something more of a career for me. I started it on a whim and I thought would be fun to do with my boys. It’s obviously taken off by surprise,” Collette Wixom said. “I still don’t want my boys to become models. Living in Los Angeles, you don’t need to have the Instagram account you just get modeling agent. Ryker still goes to preschool.”

While the Wixom family has reached some fame, Collette Wixom said he kids are still “just kids” and she is “just a mom taking pictures of her kids.”

“My husband and I try to make sure they’re happy, healthy and confident,” she said. “Confidence is super important in age of social media.”

Collette Wixom often shops at the Valencia Town Center and is currently working to secure contracts with corporate companies, she said. She also receives clothes from several mom and pop, boutique-type businesses.

“I hope to continue it and grow with it and see where it takes me. They’re boys and they’re going to want to do they do now — you can’t get four year old to do what want,” Collette Wixom said. “I don’t know where it’ll take me but I’m in for the ride and doing it as long as it’s fun.”
