City gives the green light to new advisory body.
The arts in Santa Clarita will now have an official City-sanctioned group of advocates, thanks to the initial passage of an ordinance that will form a new Arts Commission.
Before this development, an Arts Advisory Committee had acted as the unofficial advisory body to the Santa Clarita City Council, however the new Commission will take their place.
The ordinance was passed by unanimous vote, and it will install a five-member commission with a mission to promote and enhance the art performance and art education opportunities in the City.
Each member will be appointed by the City Council and will receive $133.00 for each of the meetings.
Meetings are scheduled to take place on the third Thursday of each month, and the public will be welcome to attend.
No official date has been set for the Council to appoint the new Commission members. The Commission meetings will begin shortly after the appointments.
One more affirming vote is still required in order for the ordinance to pass, however the Council is expected to mirror Tuesday’s unanimous vote.
