Ongoing illness leads to lung infection.
[view:node_ad=5]Assemblywoman Sharon Runner, who represents the Antelope Valley in California politics, had to be briefly hospitalized Sunday evening for an infection in her lungs.
“Last night I had to seek hospital treatment due to an infection in my lungs that is common in people with limited lung capacity and a compromised immune system. I am receiving the necessary treatment to fight this infection and I plan on returning to work within the next week.”
Assemblywoman Runner suffers from limited scleroderma, which forced her to place her name on the lung transplant list back in February. The disease impacts her body’s immune system, causing it to attack healthy connective tissue.
Despite the illness, Runner vowed to keep working.
“Much still needs to do be done in Sacramento and when I return, I will fight for a budget that protects hardworking families and implements sound economic principles. I look forward to getting back to work,” she said in a prepared statement. “I would also like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to everyone who has offered their well wishes and prayers during this past year.”
