AT&T Champions Classic Releases Talent Lineup

Defending champion Denis Watson will be among returning players in 2009.

By Jeremiah McDaniel and Jon Dell

Denis Watson is getting ready to defend his championship
title against the likes of Loren Roberts, Jay Hass and Fred Funk, in the
upcoming AT&T Champions Classic match.

 “This is going to be
the strongest field we’ve ever had,” said Jim Fitzsimmons, General Manager of
Valencia Country Club, where the tournament will be held.

Hass finished first in the Charles Schwab Championship Cup,
despite winning no points in the last round at the Sonoma Country Club.  Andy Bean won at Sonoma with a commanding lead of 20-under par,
nine strokes ahead of second places Gene Jones.

The tournament started at the Rancho Park Golf Course in
1990 and moved to Wilshire Country Club before coming to the Valencia Country Club
in 2001.

AT&T has sponsored the event since 1998, but reported
that the 2009 Champions Classic Champions Tour event at Valencia Country Club will
be their last. A replacement sponsor has not been released.

The tour, which stops in Valencia March 9-15, is expected to
bring more than $8 million in tourism dollars to the Santa Clarita area.

The list of golfers includes: Dave Barr, Gene Jones, Chip
Beck, Graham Marsh, Ronnie Black, Mark McNulty, Phil Blackmar, Larry Mize, Brad
Bryant, Dana Quigley, Russ Cochran, Eduardo Romero, Allen Doyle, Craig Stadler,
R.W. Eaks, Dave Stockton, Bruce Fleisher, Hal Sutton, Dan Forsman, Jim Thorpe, Morris
Hatalsky, Tom Wargo, Mike Hulbert
