A man tries to steal a car but leaves with a purse.

An attempted car jacking turned to armed robbery Friday night, after a man tried to steal a woman’s car but instead made off with her purse.

The incident occurred on the 17000 block of Nellie May Drive in Canyon Country just before midnight.

The suspect approached an unidentified woman’s car with a small sharp object and tried to steal the vehicle.  He then slashed the woman’s arm and made off with her purse.

The suspect is still at large, and anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact the Santa Clarita Sheriffs Station at (661) 255 1121.
