Author Answers Children’s Meaty Questions

hamburgerLocal author, Phillis Stacey-Brooks has recently published a children’s book, What Makes A Hamburger?, that step-by-step explains what makes a hamburger so delicious. This is the first in a series of coming “What Makes” books for pre-readers and early readers.

Inspired to write after her failed attempts to find books that fed her twin boys’ curiosity about the making of things, Stacey-Brooks describes each element of a hamburger, starting with the patty, progressing to the bun, and detailing the condiments.

The book features colorful photographs, rhyming words, counting for beginners, and activities including a coloring page and a hamburger recipe.

Coming “What Makes” books include What Makes A Cupcake? and What makes a Fireman?. Phillis is also developing a website including games, activities, a special edition of What Makes A Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich?, and other information. An iPhone “What Makes A Hamburger?” application is also in development.
