College of the Canyons offers advanced degrees in new state-of-the-art building
On Thursday, August 20th, College of the Canyons will hold an open house for prospective students and community members to view the new 110,000 square foot Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center.
Providing interested students with the opportunity to converse with university representatives, learn about financial aid programs, meet with guidance counselors, and fill out admissions applications, the open house marks the start of a new relationship.
In an attempt to enable Santa Clarita residents to attain advanced degrees without leaving the valley, COC has partnered with surrounding four-year colleges including, University of La Verne, UCLA Extension, California State University Northridge, California State University Bakersfield, Chapman University, and National University. More than 50 bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees will now be offered under one roof.
“The University Center is a godsend to those of us who have full-time careers and busy family lives,” stated Cathy Ritz, interim director of the Center and chief operating officer of the college’s Foundation. “The University Center allowed me to complete my educational goals without the stress of having to leave the Santa Clarita Valley.”
Located on the southern boundary of the Valencia Campus, the new University Center will provide state-of-the art classrooms for the advanced degree programs.
Free parking will be available in lots 13 and 14 for the open house, which is scheduled to run from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
