Bad Hair Days Forecast This Weekend

Winds sure to whip up some challenges in Santa Clarita.

Some sizable gusts are expected throughout the weekend in our town, and with them come challenges that range from life threatening to cosmetic.

At certain times during the year, the winds can pose a substantial fire risk. However, in April it’s a little to early for that, according to Captain Gary Dellamalva from Los Angeles County Fire Station 73. “Luckily at this time of the season the moisture in the fields is still pretty high,” he said. And while that doesn’t mean that Santa Clarita will be immune from fires, it does greatly reduce the chances that a large, fast moving fire could break out. The Fire Department is not planning on adding any additional personnel to this weekend’s watch.

One place sure to feel the impact of the winds is the highway. State route 14 has a wind advisory in effect from SoledadCanyon to Escondido Summit. As usual, the I-5 through the Grapevine will also be impacted by the winds. High profile vehicles are most at risk of being knocked around, however all cars should take precautions. Those precautions include keeping both hands on the wheel at all times, and adjusting your speed according to the conditions.

And while it may be a nuisance to most of us, the wind could be considered “invisible gold” by the hair spray companies. Make no mistake, the winds will be make any neatly groomed hairstyle turn into a disaster zone, so be prepared to wear a hat or put your hair into a bun when you leave the safety of the indoors.
