Bar Fight Sends One To Hospital, One To Jail

khts_crimeA young woman is in the hospital this morning after suffering major injuries in a bar fight Monday morning and her assailant is in custody.

Deputies arrested Dustin Newton, 25, at his Tujunga home Monday morning after deputies pieced together information culled from witnesses, credit card and vehicle registration that placed him at the scene of the crime.

The incident occurred after closing time at Mabel’s Roadhouse near the corner of Bouquet Canyon and Soledad Canyon Roads. At approximately 2:30 a.m., the couple got into an argument and Newton allegedly punched the victim in the face, causing her to fall backwards and hit her head on the concrete parking lot.

He then drove away in his pickup truck. The victim suffered a serious head injury and was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital for treatment. According to Lt. Mark Hershey, her injuries are no longer life-threatening.

Patrol deputies were able to track down Newton from a first name given to them by witnesses and matched credit card receipts from the bar with vehicle registration that matched the vehicle’s description and partial plate.

He surrendered to deputies without incident and was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s station, where he remains in custody.
