Placerita Canyon Nature Center needs volunteer Docent-Naturalists to lead hikes.
Kick off this year with some up close and personal time with nature. Docent Naturalist training begins this Tuesday, January 8th, and everyone is encouraged to participate. The training requires volunteers to attend meetings every Tuesday and Thursdays between 9 a.m. and noon for nine weeks. But don’t worry if you can’t make a class, because you can watch a DVD and catch up on the lesson.
And while Docents are asked to volunteer two mornings at 9:30 am to 12:30 pm each month, more time is always appreciated.
Previous experience is not required, and most Docent Naturalists are new to the Nature Center. Volunteers primarily lead elementary group hikes, but can also assist the public at the info counter, work on trails, help with park maintenance, go on educational outreaches to schools, among many other tasks.
If you wish to volunteer, go to the Placerita Nature Center on January 8th, at 9 a.m., and bring $45, which will pay the $30 docent organization membership fee (which includes insurance) and a $15 materials fee (which includes the docent training manual and a Placerita Canyon tee-shirt).
