California Highway Patrol officers responded to the report of a car seen down the side of the steep ravine around 11 a.m., officers said.

At this time, based on the preliminary information available, California Highway Patrol officers do not have a reason to suspect foul play.

Coroner’s officials have been contacted regarding the death, which is believed to have been caused by the crash.

Officers have been on scene since shortly after 11 a.m., and the vehicle, which was not been identified, was believed to be approximately 300 feet down the ravine, according to Battalion Chief Jimenez of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

While emergency responders were working to free the vehicle, the winch line snapped around 3:50 p.m., requiring responders to get additional chains to support the vehicle.

No information is available at this time regarding the vehicle or the identity of the deceased.

The crash that prompted the vehicle to head down the ravine was believed to have happened more than 24 hours ago, according to preliminary information. At this time, officers are not sure how long the decedent and the vehicle have been at the location they were found.

The recovery process is ongoing and officers are still there as of 4:45 p.m.
